Working From Home… Post-Covid
If you are like me, Coronavirus is a word that you probably would like to never hear again. Fortunately, there can be a silver lining in all this mess that seems to be going on in the world. All you have to do is open your eyes!
If we, as a society, have learned anything in the past year and a half, it’s that we know how easy it is for the world to be turned upside down. 2020 and 2021 will be two years that no one will ever forget because of the Coronavirus and while things seem to be finally getting back to normal, the job landscape is quickly changing.
People that felt that their careers were safe, in many cases, have realized that may not exactly be as true as they once thought. One thing that this virus has caused is a shift in how people can earn a living. Many were forced to work from home which I think has opened their eyes to the fact that there may be a lot of potential to this whole work from home thing.
Of course, most are still doing it as an employee but how many of those people never imagined working their full-time jobs from their couch for over a year? I believe that this virus has changed things more than we think.
What’s The Future Looking Like?
As I write this in late April 2022, as far as the virus is concerned, things appear to be finally returning back to normal. Or, people are just ready to move on and finally realize that this virus simply isn’t going anywhere and is something that we are just going to have to learn to live with.
Regardless, things have changed. Between inflation, wars, and Covid more and more people are searching for ways to earn either additional income from home or are looking to replace the job they have now. Whether it is because they want to or have to depend on the person, either way, it’s happening.
Prices on everything seem to be skyrocketing because of massive shortages. Lumber, for example, has tripled or quadrupled, because of massive shortages. Myself working in the automotive industry have been dealing with microchip shortages. Have you looked at your local dealership lately and noticed how empty the lot is?
Rental cars are another example of something that has tripled in price also because of massive shortages. Many employers are having a very difficult time finding people to work which seems to be creating yet another set of problems.
My point being, although things that deal directly with the virus seem to be finally coming to an end, it feels like that, we as a country, are beginning to deal with the repercussions of everything now. It has changed the way businesses run. It has changed how employees work. Some of these changes are going to be good and some of them are going to be bad, all depending on what side of the fence you’re on.
Working From Home Is No Longer Taboo
All of this uncertainty is all the more reason to look into starting a business of your own from home. Whether it is something that you are looking to completely replace your job or simply to make a side income it is completely up to you.
It wouldn’t have been that long ago that if you told someone that you ran a business from your laptop at home that you probably would have gotten side-eyes and assumed that you were running some sort of scam. After all, 10 years ago there were no online bookkeeping courses like there are now. Even affiliate marketing (that’s what I do) was in its infancy.
Many of the programs that were around back then were things like MLM (multi-level marketing) programs or other very shady tactics to make money. Fortunately, technology has allowed more legitimate means to come into the online space so starting a business from the comfort of your own home is a very real possibility.
Add in a year and a half of shutdowns, social distancing, skyrocketing gas and groceries, and fear of the unknown and you are going to witness a major shift into the ways that people earn a living. All it takes is an open mind and a willingness to learn a new skill set.
Set Realistic Expectations
The first thing that you have to figure out is what is your main objective when looking to work from home? Is it to completely replace your job or to add an additional source of income? Do you want that full-time income or do you want to triple what you would normally earn on a year? How long until you plan on hitting whatever income goals that you have?
If you are looking to earn $100,000 a month in just a few months’ time then you are going to be very disappointed. When looking to make this type of transition it is very important to keep things realistic.
More than likely, you are going to be learning something that is brand new to you. That alone is going to take time. For example, the bookkeeping course that I mainly focus on here is designed to take roughly 3 months to go through. Then, after you get through the course, you can start your marketing and find those clients.
This is why it is very important to take a deep look at yourself and figure out if a home business is the right move for you. You need to maintain the drive to make it happen. No one is going to push you to keep going when things get tough. There will be days where you simply don’t feel like doing anything and you need to push through and do it anyway.
I don’t want this to feel like it’s all doom and gloom, because it is definitely not that! There are people that do affiliate marketing that earn $500,000 a month, virtual bookkeepers that earn $300,000 a year profit, and virtual tax business owners that make $150,000 in just 3 months!
The awesome thing about a virtual business of your own is that there really is no ceiling. You are not limited to marketing in your local area. You have the entire country (or world depending on the business that you choose) at your fingertips. Just keep in mind that you have to put the work in to see the results (or hire others to do the work for you).
The Future Is Bright!
If you have that entrepreneurial itch that needs to be scratched, then know that there are opportunities out there that are very much worth pursuing. In fact, down the road, the types of businesses that can be offered online will increase and the training will become much more efficient. These types of programs are going to continue to grow as an acceptable means for others to choose to conduct their businesses.
Getting in at this stage in the game is an excellent chance to take advantage of a changing economy. Taking control of your life by becoming your own boss is always going to be the right move as long as you are willing to put in the work to make it happen!
