10 Tips For Succeeding As A Virtual Assistant

Are you thinking of starting a virtual assistant (VA) business from home? If so, you’re definitely not alone. Millions of people all over the world are now working from home, and thanks to the internet, it’s never been easier to start your own business.

Succeeding as a virtual assistant can be much easier than you may think because most of the tips that I am about to go over strictly deal with you and your approach before you even really get going.

But even if starting a VA business is relatively easy, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be successful. In order to be successful as a virtual assistant, there are some things you need to keep in mind.   Lets’ quickly go over what a virtual assistant is.

What Is A Virtual Assistant?

A virtual assistant is an online administrative assistant who can perform a variety of tasks, such as customer service, data entry, appointment scheduling, and more. Virtual assistants are often used by small businesses and entrepreneurs who need help with managing their day-to-day operations but don’t have the time or resources to do everything themselves.

VA’s can be hired on a per-task basis, or as part of a monthly retainer agreement. The amount that you can make as a virtual assistant will vary depending on the tasks required and the experience.  The good news is that there is a way that I can show you how to never make less than $20 an hour… but more on that in a minute.

If you’re considering becoming a virtual assistant, it’s important to first determine what tasks you can provide. Once you’ve figured that out, you can focus on finding clients that are specifically looking for help in those areas that you want to focus on.  As a virtual assistant, you can free up time for the client so that they are able to focus on more important things, such as growing their business or spending more time with their family.

One of the cool things about becoming a VA is that there are a lot of tasks that are pretty easy to learn, in many cases, you can even learn them on the fly.  You are then able to expand your offered services to potential clients as your business begins to snowball.

10 Tips For Succeeding As A Virtual Assistant

Now that you understand what a virtual assistant is, it’s time to learn how to be successful as one. Here is a list of my top 10 tips that will drastically help get you going as a VA:

1. Have a strong work ethic.

A successful virtual assistant is someone who is reliable and puts in the effort necessary to get the job done. You have to show that you are a professional when it comes to working from home even if you are brand new.

2. Be patient when developing relationships with your clients.

Remember, a client-assistant relationship is a two-way street, so patience in both directions is vital for success. As a virtual assistant, you have to be able to accept constructive criticism and also offer helpful criticism in return.

3. Do your best to learn about their business.

As a virtual assistant, it is important to understand your client’s industry so you can provide them with the best support possible. If you develop an understanding of why they do what they do, you will be able to better support them in their daily activities. This also makes you more valuable to them, as the business owner, they will know they can rely on you even when things aren’t going well with their business.

4. Offer support for your client’s goals and plans.

As a virtual assistant, it is important to offer support for your client’s goals and plans. Not only does this make you a better assistant, but it also makes you a valuable asset to the business. If you can help your client reach their goals, they will be sure to keep you around for future assistance.

5. Keep up with technology changes.

As technology changes, so must the services a virtual assistant provides. It is important to stay up to date on the latest trends and changes in order to provide your clients with the best possible assistance.

6. Use time management skills.

Since you will be working from home, it is important to have good time management skills. This way, you can get your work done in a timely manner without having to sacrifice your personal time.

7. Stay organized.

As a virtual assistant, it is important to stay organized both in your work and personal life. This will help keep you sane when working from home and will also make you more productive.

8. Have a positive attitude.

A positive attitude is contagious, which means it will likely affect the people you are working with. When your client(s) see that you have a positive outlook on things, this can help motivate them to have a more positive outlook as well.

9. Be willing to research and learn new skills.

As a virtual assistant, it is important to have an open mind when it comes to learning new skills. You never know what type of skill your client will need, so having an open mind is key. This way you can provide them with the best quality possible.

10. Have a backup plan for times when things go wrong.

While most work-from-home jobs are stable, there is always a chance that something will go wrong. That’s why it is important to have a backup plan for times when things go wrong. This could be anything from having another job lined up to having money saved up in case of an emergency.

As you can see, none of these are all too complicated.  In fact, most are pretty much common sense.  As long as you have the drive to become a successful virtual assistant, you can pretty guarantee a successful business for yourself.

If you are brand new to the thought of starting up this kind of business then where do you go to learn how to do it?  Is it hard to get going?  Is it something that anyone can learn?
